Conflict and Conflict Solution in Palestine and Israel

The Centre for the Study of Mind in Nature in cooperation with the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters invite you to a round table discussion with introductory presentations from Lucy Austin-Nusseibeh and Fania Oz-Salzberger.

Following words of welcome from Professors Christel Fricke (research director at CSMN) and Ole M. Sejersted (President of the Academy), our guests from Palestine and Israel will open the event with presentations of their respective views on the topic, against the background of their own personal experience of the conflict as it has developed over the last decades. These presentations will be followed by a dialogue between them.

Topics will include activism and hope, perception and paranoia; but the speakers will also offer their own views of the present-day hopelessness, from both the Palestinian and the Israeli perspective. The underlying assumption is that both the conflict and its solution reside in both lands. The shared hope is that both Israeli citizens and Palestinians can cooperate and shape a future of peaceful co-existence -- as two neighbouring countries or as just one country -- even though they find it difficult to agree about the past.

Then, the other participants of our round table discussion will respond to the main speakers and engage in a discussion with them: Bashshar Haidar (American University, Beirut), Marte Heian-Engdal (University of Oslo), Anton Leist (University of Zürich). After a short break, we shall open the floor for a general discussion.

The meeting is open to the general public.
