Parallel conversations
At 13.30 there will be parallel conversations about positive and negative experiences, barriers, questions, including topics such as role models, dependency on those in power, the implicit , tacit rules, codes about decision-making, expectations, conflict management, mentoring, harassment versus “academic freedom of expression”.
Participants are invited to join several conversations, each lasting 20-30 minutes.

Gender/LGBTQIA+ and academic careers
Obligations of care and academic careers
International background, Norwegian culture and peer inclusion
A life in flux – temporary employment and mobility
About the Organizers
The workshop is organized by the Centre of Excellence PluriCourts UiO, Center of excellence MultiLing UiO and The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
What are the achievements, milestones and challenges for Norwegian universities to be more inclusive? Welcome to the workshop 'Diversity in Academia: Next Steps'.
How can Norwegian universities be more inclusive?
This is among the questions asked at the workshop on Diversity in Academia.
The workshop will, among other issues, discuss the following:
- How may academic institutions better welcome colleagues with international backgrounds, whose lives are in flux, with obligations of care, or with disabilities?
- How do members of different genders, ethnicities or class backgrounds experience academic life?
- How do universities convey implicit rules, codes and expectations – and if not, how do new members uncover them?
Program
The program starts at 09.00 AM with opening remarks by Gunn Birkelund, Unn Røyneland, Director at MultiLing, University of Oslo (UiO) and Andreas Føllesdal, Director at PluriCourts, UiO.
The official program ends at 06.00 PM, with a summing up by Åse Gornitzka, Pro-Rector of UiO at 06.30 PM.

Representatives from the Academy of Science and Letters will be President Lise Øvreås (UiB), Vice President Terje Lohndal (NTNU) and Gunn Elisabeth Birkelund, Secretary General at The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
Registration
The workshop is open to all interested and there will be served lunch, coffee and dinner in the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters' own building at Drammensveien 78.
