The International Olympic Committee has announced that athletes who want to compete in the female category should be submitted to genetic screening. Until now, the entire Olympic movement has abandoned genetic testing for gender eligibility.
At this meeting we shall discuss how sport arrived at this position and, in particular, the difficult and sometimes bitter conflicts arising, from the points of science, ethics law and culture. Science has been asked settle a question that scientists cannot answer in a way that can prevent harm on some athletes. How to balance the benefits and harms to the athletes is not an easy question to answer. Unfortunately, this topic has become deeply politicized and is difficult to discuss.
The Academy's Group for molecular biology and cell biology are host to this open meeting, which has Professor Roger Pielke Jr. (US) as main speaker, with comments from Professors Kristian Gundersen and Sigmund Loland.

About the speakers
Roger Pielke Jr is a Senior Fellow at American Enterprise Institute and a professor emeritus at the University of Colorado Boulder. Roger teaches and writes on a diverse range of policy and governance issues related to science, technology, environment, energy, climate, innovation and sports, and his research is widely cited in multiple fields. He oversees the popular Substack The Honest Broker.
Kristian Gundersen is a Professor at Department of Biosciences at The University of Oslo, Section for Physiology and cell Biology (UiO). He works on the effects of testosterone on muscle, and has established that there is a cellular muscle memory of previous exercise or hormone exposure.
Sigmund Loland is Professor and former Rector at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences (NIH). He works on sports and ethics and has published extensively on fairness and justice ideals.
