The Fridtjof Nansen award for excellence in science

The Fridtjof Nansen award for excellence in science  is awarded to a Norwegian scientist, or a scientist residing in Norway, for scientific contributions of a high-level international importance. The award is given to inspire further work.

Awarded by the Nansen foundation and affiliated funds. The award ceremony takes place at the annual meeting of The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in May.

The award consists of a diploma, NOK 300.000, a diploma and the Nansen medal. The medal is approved of His Majesty King Harald as an official decoration and ranks at number 16.

The award alternates (everyother year) between humanities and social sciences and medicin and natural sciences.

Fridtjof Nansen’s award for young scientists
The Fridtjof Nansen award for young scientists, under the age of 40, covers humanities and social sciences and medicin and natural sciences. The award consist of a diploma and NOK 75 000.
